*Feelings
In this event, we brought two individuals from opposing sides of the criminal justice system together to discuss ‘The F* Word’ and the emotion it can evoke in a segregation unit in a high-security prison. An alumni member and a serving officer in a Cat A prison shared their experience of the unwanted place that the F* word holds, followed by a Q&A discussion with a psychologist in a secure setting and an alumnus of Safe Ground.
This discussion became centred on the issue of an insufficient number of mental health support services in the community, and how this also extends to the prison environment. This matter ultimately comes down to the major shortage of mental health professionals in the field, leading to a disproportionate number of people in society, inclusive of prisons, suffering from an inability to talk about ‘The F* Word’.
