Network News
All FM/FI Network members receive regular Network emails, phone calls and a bi-annual Newsletter from Safe Ground.
Course tutors describe news updates as:
- “a useful support mechanism”
- “evidence of what’s happening in other prisons”
- “a source of figures that can be given to Operations Managers”
- “evidence that they (teaching teams) are part of a bigger picture”

National Events
Members of the FM/FI Network are invited from all over the country to attend national events to share practice and catch up with each others experiences, as well as to inform them of new ideas and techniques to help develop course delivery. For those who cannot attend, news can be downloaded as a summary report of each event, e.g. June 05 Symposium and March 06 Symposium.
What FM/FI teachers and managers said about the March 06 Symposium:
- “Tutors sharing experiences and ideas was the most useful part of the day for us” LW, HMP Cardiff
- “The Symposium was very well run and interactive as always!” AL, HMYOI Aylesbury
- “Very often we feel that the battles to get the course running, to implement Family Days and to raise the profile of parenting education is unique to one’s own prison. It is comforting to know that we all have to keep pushing to being about reform.” JT, HMP Winchester
- “evidence that they (teaching teams) are part of a bigger picture”
Being a member of the FM/FI Network
Keep us informed of your most up-to-date email and postal address, and telephone number. We keep this information on a secure and confidential database available only to Safe Ground.
Tell us about the dates of the forthcoming Family Man (FM) and Fathers Inside (FI) courses in your establishment.
Complete and send us a Data Collection form for every course you run after the students’ portfolios have been verified by your moderator.
These figures are essential to help us monitor the successes and challenges of delivering Family Man and Fathers Inside for National Offender Management Service, The Prison Service, The Department for Education and Skills and future funders.
Statistics show unrivalled success in achieving nationally recognized awards for a great number of prisoners, and track what graduates go on to do within the prison system after completing FM or FI.
